This work’s is based in my thesis research on the abject and crip theory (the resulting thesis was titled Normative Bodies, Crip Theory, and the Abject: An Examination of the Crip Grotesque in Contemporary Fine Art Practice). I was interested in making a work out of domestic materials which would be comparable in scale to the human body. Nest-like and cavernous, the resulting sculpture took form from my ongoing ‘body map‘ drawing practice, whereby I imagine the page as a reflection of my body, and illustrate sensations and symptoms felt each day.
